Surgical Dermatology Services

As a board-certified dermatologist, Dr. Cannon is an expert in the diagnosis and treatment of a variety of conditions requiring surgical treatment. Performing thousands of procedures every year on a spectrum of lesions ranging from benign skin growths to the more complex skin cancers, Dr. Cannon can help you navigate the surgical process from start to finish.

At Cannon Dermatology, we aim for the simplest approach that provides the most optimal outcome. Whether it is a simple skin biopsy or a more complex excision of a large skin cancer we discuss all of the treatment options with you including medical options and help you decide on a treatment plan that you are comfortable with.

Holding ourselves to the highest standards of care, we realize there will be times when we are not the best option for treatment of a specific lesion. In these cases we will help to coordinate your care with the appropriate sub-specialist and continue to provide follow-up care.

Dr. Cannon is trained in and regularly performs various methods of surgical treatment such as destruction of benign and malignant lesions, excisional surgery, and skin biopsies. For certain skin cancers, referral to a specialized dermatologic skin cancer surgeon or MOHS surgeon is recommended. This decision is based on Dr. Cannon’s adherence to the MOHS Appropriate Use Criteria.

WHAT IS MOHS MICROGRAPHIC SURGERY?

Mohs micrographic surgery is the most advanced, precise and effective surgical treatment for numerous types of skin cancers. With this technique, a MOHS surgeon can effectively identify and remove a tumor and leave the surrounding normal skin unharmed. MOHS surgery has the highest success rate of all types of skin cancer treatments at 99% for most.

Dr. Sarah Cannon is terrific. I have chronic bouts of eczema flares paired with skin cancer which has needed multiple Moh’s extraction. Dr. Cannon is professional, personable, kind, and as importantly empathetic to the anxiety and pain associated with this patient’s condition. Her explanations are understandable and direct.
